In need of a new journal.

Wed Dec 12, 2007, 3:17 PM
I just realised that it's been three months since I last wrote in this thing.

Well, I'm back from Uni' for Christmas now - I got back a few hours ago. It feels /very/ weird being back - though I'm sure it'll feel normal soon enough.
I swear I had twice as much stuff to bring back as I took up - we have to empty our rooms out at the end of every term. So that was fun.

Mmmm...I really don't have much to say. I'm running on four hours of sleep, so I probably don't make much sense.

University. ;_;

Thu Sep 13, 2007, 2:41 PM
I'm off at the end of the month, to Durham. I guess I'm excited - I'm kind of nervous too. I don't make friends easily - I'll be relying on my Spongebob bag and my Clangers poster to start conversations. =P

I don't know how much time I'll get to spend playing online - not that it'll make much difference, given how inactive I've been here lately.
I'm taking my camera with me, so hopefully I'll get to take photo's. There's a photography group there, so that should motivate me.

I bought (well, technically my Mom bought, and I think she's paying for it. So yay) a new camera bag. The little one that I got with the camera was far too small to carry my three lenses, so I ordered a Lowepro Mini Trekker from Amazon. Everything fits in nicely, with extra space in case I buy anything else. It means that all my stuff's together for when I go.

I'm also awaiting a new lens cap for my macro, and a Wacom Volito tablet. (I got the cheap tablet because I can't draw. I just like to play with tablets.)

I still need to purchase an external hard drive, which I need to get sorted out soon, and a new tripod, which is less urgent. I'm looking at a Seagate FreeAgent hard drive, and no idea for the tripod.

There's so much to sort out before I go. Argh. =/

Results Day (+1).

Fri Aug 17, 2007, 3:41 AM
Yesterday was the day the A-level results were released. (To us, anyway. The universities have had them since...Monday? Hmph.)

So. Yeah. I was very nervous, especially since I was convinced I'd messed up my Geology exams.
As it turned out, I got (almost) full marks on them. Haha. I dropped one. xD

My other subjects were pretty damn good too. Particularly Physics, which I was pleased about because I did a hell of a lot of revision for it. Physics is /hard/.

So, I came out of my college education with five 'A' grades. =D
A few other people and I had to be photographed for a newspaper. That was embarrassing. =P

Turns out I'm smart. =D

(And before anyone gives me that "exams are getting easier" crap, I challenge you to take them yourselves. They're not easy in the slightest.)

Oh, and I know I've been inactive recently. The adapter cable to my laptop has broken, and the new one hasn't arrived yet, due to Royal Mail being stupid. And I really dislike using computers. The keyboards and screens are weird. Plus, /all/ of my stuff is on my laptop, which has probably 15 minutes of battery life left, so I can't upload the rest of my zoo pictures either. Rawr.

Anyhow. Letting you all know I am still alive. (And feeling clever, I must admit. Heh.)

EDIT 18.08.07:
Got a new cable today. So yay for laptop. ^^

I'm an adult! And other news.

Tue Jul 24, 2007, 3:03 PM
So, today is my birthday. It's actually only my birthday for another eight minutes, so I'd better hurry up with this.
I'm eighteen. I can (legally) drink gamble and vote. I can even buy porn, if I want. (Which I don't, just so you know.)

Hurrah.

I haven't actually been looking forward to this birthday. It doesn't feel very important. I mean, sure, it's nice officially being an adult, but I just don't care about drinking or gambling or anything.

However, what is more exciting (at least to me), is that I can now enter photography competitions without worrying about being underage. So yay!
AND. I am now able to sell prints through dA. I shall be putting prints up soon...ish. I know I won't sell anything, and I'm happy with that. It just looks fun. =P

Plus, I recently (i.e. last week) bought a macro lens. It's the canon 100mm f/2.8 macro, and it is awesome. I haven't been able to get out and about with it due to the fact that England is under a constant rain cloud, so there's nothing to upload yet. (Unless I decide I like the photo's I took in my garden.)
I even managed to get Jessops to knock £126 off their price, which I was very happy with. I now need to buy a new tripod and a new bag. Whoo.

And (and I think this is the last thing) I decided to make myself a website. I've been interested in website building for years, but I never had the expertise or the patience to make one. But I decided I wanted one for my photography (again, 'cause it looked fun), so I taught myself HTML and CSS using websites, and built one.
It turned out to be a lot of hard work, especially since my host is case sensitive with regard to file names. So annoying. =P
So. If anyone is at all interested: [link]
I think I've managed to fix all the links, but if you find any problems could you please let me know? Thanks. =)

(This is all the news I promised in my last journal, by the way. I wanted to save it 'til today. So there's lots!)

Oh, and P.S. Has anyone read Harry Potter? It made me oh so sad. =(

Portfolio help.

Mon Jul 9, 2007, 12:55 PM
Ok. So. I've been trying to pick photographs for a portfolio. Not because I need one, or anything, but because I thought it would be fun - and for another reason which I shall reveal later. =P

Anyway. It's harder than I thought. =P
Firstly, I'm not sure how many images you're supposed to have in a portfolio - I'm guessing 10-15ish?

Secondly, I don't know what pictures to use. I have a few that I definitely want to be in there, but I'd really appreciate your help on the rest.
(I figure that if I get enough opinions, I can construct a decent portfolio. =P >

So. Yes. Help?

(In other news - there should be a fair bit of news soon. But not yet. It will involve me making myself poor.)
